In 2004, we seriously thought about what we could do to help the people affected by the tsunami disaster that caused serious damage to Sri Lanka and many other Asian countries. As a result, we worked together with Sri Lankan students at Saga University, Saga citizens, Naoko Yamazaki of Niigata Prefecture, and local residents to raise money and build a modern two-story library at Ambalantota High School in southern Sri Lanka
２００４年にスリランカを始め数多くのアジア諸国に深刻な被害をもたらした津波災害に自分達がスリランカで被害にあった方々に何か出来るか深刻に考えました。
その結果、佐賀大学のスリランカ人留学生を始め佐賀市民および新潟県の山崎直子その地域の方々と協力して募金活動を行いスリランカ南部にあるアンバラントタ高校に近代的な二階建ての図書館を建てました。
更に2010年3月に同学校に、演劇や集会等に利用出来るステージを「スリランカと佐賀の会」と「山崎キョミ基金」の協力のもとで建てました。それらの活動の様子は地元の新聞でも大きく取り上げられています。
