To honor and remember the people of Sri Lanka who lost their lives in the Indian Ocean tsunami of December 26, 2004, a modern two-story library was constructed at Ambalantota Central College in southern Sri Lanka through donations generously contributed by the people of Saga Prefecture, Japan. The library was named the “Saga–Lanka Friendship Library.”
To commemorate the 20th anniversary of the library’s establishment, Mr. Seizo Iida, Chairman of Iida Socks Co. Ltd., provided financial support for the renovation of the library and also donated books needed by the library.
Furthermore, beginning in April 2026, the “Seizo Iida Scholarship” was established. Under this program, scholarships will be awarded to fifteen outstanding students from economically disadvantaged backgrounds who are enrolled at Ambalantota Central College.
